How to change a UV lamp
So you want to change the UV lamp in your water filter? Strangely enough we get loads of phone calls asking this exact question. While most of the time the method will be in your manual, sometimes it's just nice to talk to someone that's used to doing it.
- Turn off the power going to the UV unit and isolate the water if possible.
- Release the lamp holding mechanism. This is usually a black thing on the end of the unit with the lamp lead coming out of it but don't be put off by different colours.
- Slide the lamp out as straight as you can. Glass doesn't bend, so don't try to make it.
- Check the old lamp against the new one, then put the new one in doing the reverse.
- Don't use tools to do the unit back up. Most of the time they're made to seal when they're hand tight. If you want really want to over-tighten, a extra quarter turn is the max you should do.
- Turn the unit back on. Some units will require you to hold a reset button when powering the unit up but most will be fine to switch back on.
- Put the kettle on. Maybe treat yourself to a slice of cake while you're at it...

Like I say, it's a pretty common thing for us to deal with so we should be able to help you nice and quickly. Just try to find the make and model of the system before you call though. Not all UV units are alike.
